Description

Overview War club Pawnee, Native American ca. 1800 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 746 This ceremonial club, popularly referred to as a gunstock club, takes the form of a deer leg and is inscribed with cosmological imagery: one side has thirty-seven four-pointed stars, and the other has the graceful image of a comet complemented by four zigzag lines. Holes and channels that span the trailing edge of the club may have held feathers or other adornments.
