Overview Wall paintings on black ground: from the imperial villa at Boscotrecase Roman, Pompeian last decade of the 1st century BCE On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 167 On black ground, in center, a religious ceremony taking place before a tower. In foreground, a pair of slim columns supporting ornate pediment. Above each column, portrait enclosed in medallion. Left portrait is probably Julia, daughter of Augustus; right Livia, wife of Augustus.
