Description

Overview Vase Possibly Boston & Sandwich Glass Company American 1880–88 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774 The American attribution of this piece is questionable because similar pieces are known to be of English origin. However, a case can be made for the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, which by the 1880s began to make machine-threaded, Venetian-inspired glass under the supervision of Nicholas Lutz, who joined the firm in 1869. The expanded diamond design may prove to be a clue to the correct identification of the manufacturer.
