Overview Vase Chelsea Keramic Art Works American 1876–80 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774 The shape of this oval vase probably derives from Asian forms; yet it is decorated with the classical elements of lion's maskes with rings. The Robertsons of Chelsea Keramic Art Works experimented with glaze colors and shapes after viewing the displays of metalwork and ceramics from Japan and China, and the porcelain from France at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876. This curious combination of influences is typical fo the pottery's production at this time.
