Description

Overview Vase French ca. 1831–35 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 731 This vase is part of a pair that feature two views of the New York City region copied from a portfolio of prints entitled "Views in New York and Its Environs" (1831–34). This vase, shows lower Manhattan seen from the East River side of Governor's Island. The other (17.144.1) entitled "Elysian Fields, Hoboken," portrays a New Jersey park located directly opposite New York City that became a popular spot in the early nineteenth century.
