Description

Overview Wall Sconce 1700–1730 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774 Tin sconces were probably most frequently used in public places, where a broad diffusion of light was preferable to the concentrated light necessary in domestic interiors for activities such as reading or sewing. Ascribing dates to these objects is difficult, as they seldom reveal stylistic features indicative of a particular time or region.
