Description

Overview Windowpane American 1835–45 On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774 This colorless pressed-glass windowpane is of identical design to several found as sidelights of an interior door from the Schenley Mansion in Stanton Heights near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From the early nineteenth century, Pittsburgh was a center of glass production. Pressed-glass panes were used to decorate lanterns, door sidelights, and desk or cupboard doors.
